ABOUT

Clare Clayton

As a dedicated and accredited Mental Health Counsellor (BASSc Counselling), also holding a Master's Degree in Special Education majoring in Autism Studies and Neurodiversity, I bring a wealth of professional experience in these fields. I have had the privilege of working extensively with children, adolescents, adults, and as a specialist speaker and educator in schools for 15 years. This lengthy tenure has allowed me to gain deep insights into the intricate dynamics of human development and interpersonal relationships.

COUNSELLING

Understanding that one size does not fit all, I have extensively studied and applied various evidence-based counselling therapies to suit different personalities, relationships and circumstances to ensure my clients find an approach that fits their needs.  I believe in life-long learning and continue to refresh, enhance and learn new skills to ensure I provide excellent services.  Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT),  DNA-V Intervention, Mindfulness Integrated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MBCT), Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, Trauma Therapy,  Person Centred Therapy (PCT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).

MENTORING AND WELLBEING

Helping my clients focus on skills or life pathways they wish to develop is an exciting journey for me, but can be a challenging one for my clients.  A compassionate, patient and person-centred approach is necessary for a client to feel they are edging towards and achieving their goals.

Mentors are committed to guiding you on a path of growth, self-discovery, and success. Whether you're a student or someone seeking personal development, I provide tailored guidance and support to help you achieve your goals.

In addition to personalised mentoring, wellbeing services focus on techniques to manage stress, enhance resilience, and achieve a balanced and fulfilling life. From mindfulness practices to stress reduction strategies, I provide you with the tools you need to thrive in every aspect of your life.

EDUCATIONAL AND ABILITY SCREENING

Understanding you or your child's learning styles, strengths and differences can make a world of difference through school and working years.  Screeners are useful in helping identify how one learns, where one may excel, where there may be traits of learning differences (such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, expressive or receptive language disorders etc) or traits of neurodiversity (such as Autism, Social Pragmatic Communication Disorder, ADHD (Hyperactivity, Inattention or Combined types).  Whilst these are not diagnostic assessments, they provide comprehensive information to allow, for example, schools to better understand any additional supports that may be required and can be used to support NCCD compliance.  Should you be looking for an official diagnosis, I would be happy to refer you to clinicians who can provide this additional service.
